MOBILITY – forearm lax ball smash and floss 4min/side + low/high back peanut smash and floss 2min/position
Attacking 15.1 this weekend? You’ll need that grip! And you’ll need to take care of your T-spine! Both are going to get quite beatup from all the pulls and transfer of power through the scaps.
Spend some time mobilizing before hitting this spicy WOD, and afterwards. Reclaim range of motion and have no regrets!
MINDFULNESS – consider the difference between a good and great athlete.
With the 2015 Open Season upon us, it’s time to consider what truly separates the highest level of competitors from each other, and the weekend warriors from the true warriors.
Is it that drive to push a little harder, to go deeper into that redline and grind a bit deeper?
A good athlete knows HOW to step on the gas. A great athlete knows WHEN to step on the gas.
Two very different ideas. The ability to push is a prerequisite for competitive performance. It will get you a podium finish at a local throwdown, but it will not get you to Regionals or that next level of performance.
What got you here will not get you to where you want to be. Let that soak in for a moment– if you want to go somewhere you have never been, you need to do things that you have never done. Using the same tools and strategies will only give you the same results again and again.
A good athlete knows HOW to step on the gas. A great athlete knows WHEN to step on the gas.
A great athlete knows how to pace. That finishing the first round is not the goal– it is finishing the overall workout in first. Slow reps are smooth reps. Smooth reps are fast reps.
Take your time during the Open and during 15.1– You should not step on the gas for the first 4min of this 9min AMRAP. You should step on the gas during the last two, when you least want to dig deep and confront some ugly truths about yourself.
Be a great athlete, don’t settle for good.
Like this post if you are doing some mobility to prepare for 15.1! Let me know what you are doing! A couch stretch is a great choice 😛
